Who: Anton Chigurh (as portrayed by Javier Bardem)
What: Scaring the bejesus out of some poor old gas station owner
When: November 2007
Where: "No Country For Old Men"
Why it's a great moment: It takes a serious kind of evil to scare a man shitless with some conversation while you pay for gas. But Anton Chigurh takes scary intensity to whole new levels with lines like:
"What business is it of yours where I'm from, friendo?"
"Now is not a time. What time do you close?"
"What's the most you ever lost on a coin toss?"
Chigurh goes on to coerce the station owner, who desperately just wants Chigurh to leave him alone, into calling heads. Chigurh flips the coin, it comes up heads, and he congratulates the station owner, awarding him the coin. He leaves, never explaining what would have happened if the owner had lost the toss, but, based on what Chigurh does and what he is, it's pretty clear what it might have been.
And for that, we salute him.
