Who: Brainy Gremlin
What: Commentary on civilization
When: 1990
Where: Gremlins 2: The New Batch
Why its a great moment: Your typical monster has few motivating factors in its rampage. Hunger, fear, protection, you're a smaller city than it is, etc. At a glance, gremlins appear to thrive on chaos with reckless abandon.
How fortunate it was that Grandpa from The Munsters had the opportunity to get an exclusive interview with one of them. As it turns out, the little guys long for more. Brainy Gremlin explains that all they really want is civilization. They crave the comforts and niceties that a society can provide them with.
To illustrate this point, he promptly shoots another gremlin in the face.
Evidently, gremlins are deep.
The Tony Randall Gremlin is comfortable with his limitations, strives to achieve more, and most significantly, is unafraid to shoot someone in the face. And Goddammit, Lex Luthor isn't half as articulate.
Even assuming that he doesn't speak for the species, and that all gremlins want is to eat, reproduce and kill one another indiscriminatly, shit, who the fuck doesn't? These guys aren't just great monsters, they're great Americans!
And for that, we salute them!
